What is the format of the CPD courses

The course is offered online. The course material is presented as a slide show which you read through.

The subscriber can save and exit the slide show at any time and continue with the slideshow where the slideshow has ended previously.

At the end of the slideshow, the subscriber has the option of downloading the course material for reference when completing the assessment.

The subscriber must attain a 60% pass mark in the multiple choice assessment at the end of the course as per FAIS requirements.

The system allows up to 3 retries. Should subscriber not obtain a pass in 3 attempts, the course administrator should be contacted for the course to be reloaded onto the profile of the subscriber.

Who must complete CPD?
All key individuals must undertake Continuous Professional Development. The CPD requirements do not apply to key individuals that are authorized to only render financial services or manage financial services in relation to Long-term Insurance Subcategory A and Friendly Society Benefits.
A representative must comply with the applicable CPD requirements from the date on which the supervised representative meets the class of business training requirements, RE5, and qualification requirements or after six years from the date of the first appointment, whichever occurs first.
The CPD requirements do not apply to representatives that are authorized to only render financial services or manage financial services in relation to-

 Rendering a financial service in respect of tier 2 financial products.
 Rendering intermediary services in respect of tier 1 financial product

How do I know how many hours of CPD to undertake each CPD cycle?
A CPD cycle starts on 1 June every year and ends 31 May the following year.
The number of hours which a learner must complete depends on the number of classes and subclasses the learner falls:
• 1 Subclass → 6 hours
• More than one subclass but within in same class of business → 12 hours
• More than one class of business → 18 hours
Which courses do I need to take?
The FAIS Act prescribes that representatives and key individuals undertake CPD courses up to the required hours to address their specific skills gaps.
The learner must choose their own set of courses to make up the required CPD hours they need to complete.
Each course provides you with a description as well as to which classes of business (sectors) the course is applicable to.
If you subscribe to a CPD Hour Bundle, sufficient credits will be loaded onto the learner’s virtual wallet for the learner to complete the required number of CPD hours

No, you do not need to be an FPI member.
However, this information is requested as the CPD courses completed with Compliance and Learning Center also counts toward your professional membership requirement with FPI should you be a member.
I have paid for a CPD Bundle, but the courses show prices. Do I have to pay again?
No, you do not need to pay again. You will use the virtual wallet that was emailed to you, to purchase your required courses.

2. Load course onto the cart.
3. Select the course you want to enroll in by clicking on the course name.
4. Click on “Add to cart”
5. Select “Virtual Wallet” as a payment method and pay for the courses.
6. The courses will now be available on your “My Courses”

Is it necessary to attend a workshop?

The RE1 and RE5 are licensing (competency) examinations that need to be passed by persons performing certain roles within the financial services industry.

As a licensing exam, the RE1 and RE5 is set by the regulator for the financial services industry. The regulator is known as the Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FSCA). Only a regulator approved exam body is permitted to invigilate taking of the exams. The current appointed exam body is Moonstone.

Although you can prepare for the exam on your own by using the legislation, this is tedious and most people find it very difficult to pass the exam on their own.

Compliance and Learning Center are the most reputable company to offer services to assist you to pass the RE1 and RE5 first time. Therefore, participation in a RE preparation workshop is not compulsory but highly recommended to ensure that you pass the first time with minimal study time.

Do I need to study anything beside the study guide given?

No, laughing The study guide covers all aspects of the legislation that is examinable.

We provide you with all the tools to pass.

We give you the ingredients, we give you the recipe, you must just follow the recipe and pass. 

How long after the workshop must I go and write the exam?

We recommend that you write the exam from 2 to 3 weeks of attending the workshop to allow enough time for preparation.

Why is RE1 & RE5 offered as one workshop?

Both RE1 and RE5 test your knowledge regarding the regulatory framework of the financial services industry.

The workshop concentrate on explaining concepts relating to the exam, the industry and law rather than reading the guide.

In conclusion: The subject matter of RE1 and RE5 overlaps with 85% – it is only the perspective that differs.

What is the format of the workshop?

The workshop is facilitated live in two ways:

Virtual Workshop (via Zoom): The workshop is offered virtually via Zoom, making it easy to partake even with a cellphone. Participants can access the study material and other learning tools via the online course platform. R1 520

Physical Workshop (at a venue): The workshop is offered face to face at a venue. Workshops are facilitated physically in the following areas:

  • Alberton
  • Cape Town
  • Durban
  • Midrand
  • Pretoria
  • Randburg
  • Roodepoort 
Who must complete Class of Business (COB) Training

All representatives appointed on or from 1 April 2018 has 12 months from date of first appointment to complete the relevant Class of Business training.

Representatives working under supervision on 1 April 2018 has until 31 July 2019 to complete the Class of Business training.

Key individuals must complete the relevant Class of business training before approval will be granted by FSCA.

Representatives providing financial services in terms of Tier 2 products are exempted from the COB training requirement.

Key individuals in Long-term insurance A and Friendly Society Benefits are exempted from the COB training requirement.

Which modules must be completed for each Class of Business
The COB courses are divided into modules to save you time by only completing overlapping subject matter once.

All required modules need to be completed in order to be certified for a specific Class of Business. A certificate will also only be issued on completion of all required modules.
